Food Stations allow bus riders, families and neighborhood residents to peruse donated seasonal produce items, “shop” alongside their children and friends, obtain information on the use of SNAP and the Double Your Dollar programs at area farmers’ markets, and bring home a Cookbox (think old-school recipe box) to begin preparing healthy meals at home.
Chosen sites equipped with the semi-permanent food station, are designed to not only hold seasonal produce, but also invite people into an experience while waiting for their bus to arrive. Collapsible crates are transferred in and out of the site to replenish supply by neighborhood advocates, volunteers, and STF staff and interns.
